This programme is aimed for overseas nurses who want to gain nurse registration in the United Kingdom. All applicants who apply for nurse registration in the U.K. and who meet Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) minimum requirements will be required to undertake all or part of the Overseas Nurses Programme. The ONP sets out common entry standards, a compulsory 20 day protected learning for all nurses trained outside the European Economic Area (EEA), and where appropriate, a period of supervised practice.

ONTO Ltd. is accredited by the University of Northampton to deliver the Overseas Nurses Programme. ONP is designed to prepare overseas nurse to apply knowledge, understanding and skills when performing to the standards required in employment. It consists of two integrated parts namely:

• Orientation Module (20-day protected learning)
• Supervised Practice.

The Orientation Module includes a 10- day induction course which is delivered at ONTO Ltd. Training Centre and 10 days self directed learning. After the 10 days induction course, where appropriate the student will commence the supervised practice at any of the accredited clinical settings, either in the acute hospitals or the nursing homes provided by ONTO Ltd. During the supervised practice, the student will be allocated with a qualified mentor to support the individual in achieving the level of clinical competencies required. Upon successful completion of the programme, the student is awarded 40 units credit at Level 2 by the University of Northampton.

This programme is aimed at all health and non-health professionals who want to gain qualification to work in the health care setting as health care support worker, senior care giver or care manager. The National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a work related qualification designed to recognize individual abilities which is a mixture of training and assessment. This qualification is based on national occupational standards.

ONTO Ltd. is accredited by Oxford and Cambridge Recognizing Awards to deliver in house training programmes. The courses include:

• NVQ Level 2 Health & Social Care
• NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care
• NVQ Level 4 Registered Manager's Award

The duration of the NVQ courses at all level is 6 months- one year, which consists of 1 month induction, 10 hours clinical placement per week and 5 hours self directed learning per week. The student will be assessed on individual competencies by an allocated assessor at the clinical placement area which maybe in residential or care homes, domiciliary homes, acute hospitals and others.

This award assesses someone's competence (that is the skills, knowledge and understanding they have) in a work situation. It consists of an individual unit taken from the Learning and Development national occupational standards. Assessment methods include products of evidence placed in a portfolio, observation, questioning and professional discussion carried out by a Primary Assessor and Individual Assessor. Students are provided with coaching and support to put together a portfolio of evidence to prove competence.

This is work based and is suitable for those who have current real work experience.

The award will be suitable for staff who assess NVQ candidates using a wide range of assessment methods.

The assessor will

• Assess candidates against agreed standards of competence using a wide range of assessment methods
• Give feedback to candidates on assessment decisions
• Contribute to the internal quality assurance process.

The duration of the course is flexible to meet the needs of individual students.

The Level 3 award in assessing candidates using a wide range of methods is a single unit award. The unit is the A1 unit from The learning and development National Occupational Standards. Unit A1 is broken down further into four elements, each with its own title describing the tasks to be carried out.

As part of ONTO's continuous support particularly for nurses who wanted to pursue their nursing career in the United States of America, we offer a comprehensive preparation programme for the NCLEX for Registered Nurses. This is a 6 month comprehensive programme which is provided at ONTO Training Centre in lined with Kaplan Centre.

4 month online NCLEX Preparation course including Monitored Testing via ONTO (Monitored testing is not available for direct nurses.

Course includes:

• Four months of online access to video-streamed review of exam-styled questions emphasizing critical thinking skills, along with review of frequently tested nursing content
• Specialized online International Nursing Workshops and Workbook covering Nursing in the U.S., Testing and Terminology, Dosage and Calculation
• The International Nursing Seminar Workbook to learn how nursing is practiced in the U.S. along with review of terminology and nursing math
• Online NCLEX-RN? Strategy Seminar to help nurses learn what they need to know about the exam
• Online orientation video to make the best use of Kaplan materials, and a test taking workshop helps learn how to think your way through the exam and use critical thinking skills to answer application-level questions
• A 180-question online Diagnostic Exam offers individualized feedback to help identify strengths and weaknesses to make study more effective
• A 180-question online Readiness Test offers individualized feedback to help determine if student is ready to take the test and identifies any areas that need continued study.

One day Kaplan Strategy Seminar, week of 7th April, 9-4pm

Over the course of the seminar, Kaplan will teach nurses score-raising strategies to help them pass the NCLEX exam. We will discuss:

• Dosage & calculations
• Therapeutic Communication
• Identify typical 'trap' exam questions
• Test taking strategies

During the seminar, they will also sit a sample test to provide them with an assessment of their strengths and weaknesses to help them focus their study.

The HCWSS is divided into 5 parts

The HCWSS is divided into 5 parts, these are as follows

1. Functional skills in literacy, numeracy and English Language.
2. Induction to NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care
3. Work placement. This may be up to 10 months during which time you will be receiving on the job training and assessment. During this time you will also have to attend study days at the ONTO offices. You will also be able to work up to 40 hours during this time
4. Induction to NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.
5. Work Placement. This may be up to 13 months and can be up to 40 hours paid work in a care home. Once again this period of time will consist of on the job training and assessment,protected study time and additional study days.
